What's a Btu?
Btu stands for British Thermal Unit and is defined as the amount of energy required to raise/reduce the temperature of one pound of water by one degree Fahrenheit. In the case of air conditioning units the higher the Btu per hour the greater the cooling capacity, meaning the unit can cool a room faster, and provide cooling for larger rooms/offices.
What's an average size room/What's the best unit for me?
Unfortunately there isn't a single straight forward answer. There are several factors affecting what capacity of cooling unit you may need, and therefore which unit is right for you. The room dimensions are one, including ceiling height, how many windows does the room have, how big are the windows, and how many if any are south facing? Also for consideration, how quickly do you want the room cooled down, for example if you intend to cool kids bedrooms and your own each night, speed is important! Finally how many people are in the room (if we're cooling an office), and is there equipment such as PC monitors/televisions pumping more heat into the room?
As a general rule of thumb you need at least 4 Btu's per cubic foot. So a 12x15x10ft room would need at least a 7,200 Btu aircon unit. The MF unit will provide ample cooling for a room of this size, and is a compact and lightweight unit. The 12k PLM and 15k PLMB with greater cooling capacity will cool the same "average size" room faster, and to a lower temperature (and look great whilst doing it). The 15k PLMB of course has the added benefit of filtering the air as it cools, plus a 1,680W heater for use during the winter months. If you can afford the extra £100 we recommend the 12k PLM unit given it's greater cooling capacity, if not the MF should be fine for most average size domestic requirements.
Can I permanently fit my aircon unit exhaust hose through a wall?
Yes. All our AMCOR portable aircon units come with a window fitting kit. However, these are designed primarily for the US market where windows typically slide open vertically or horizontally, where as in the UK windows generally open outwards, so these window fitting kits won't necessarily be of use. You can drill a circular hole through the wall and fit the exhaust hose snugly into this to prevent any warm air getting into the room which will improve efficiency. Having said that venting the exhaust hose out of an ajar window works fine given the heat and humidity in the UK isn't as severe as parts of the US, Middle East and Asia.
Does the Aircon Unit come with a Guarantee?
Yes. There's a one year parts and labour guarantee with the AMCOR products. If (and we mean if) there's a problem AMCOR's UK customer helpline phone number is on the back of each unit. If there's a problem call this number and the helpful AMCOR staff will try to resolve the problem over the phone, else they'll arrange collection of the unit and get it tested to ascertain any fault. The unit will either be repaired and sent back, or a new replacement unit despatched. AMCOR pride themselves on providing first class customer service.
What do the 3M Air Filters do?
All our portable aircon units come with a carbon filter as standard which should remove odours. The additional 3M Filter in the PLMB is designed to remove unhealthy particles from the air as it cools, such as pollen, bacteria, animal dander and dust.
What's next working day delivery?
Orders placed before midday Monday to Thursday should be delivered the next day, Tuesday through Friday. This is on a best endeavours basis, during extreme levels of demand (that were experienced last year!) this may slip to two days. Orders placed on a Friday before midday, will be delivered on the following Monday, and orders placed after midday on Friday, or over the weekend will be delivered on the following Tuesday.
Do you deliver to Non UK Mainland addresses?
As a general rule, no. However, we don't want to turn away business, so if you're keen to buy an air conditioning unit and you're in Northern Ireland or the Channel Islands for example, get in touch using the 'Contact Us' link and we'll get a quote for delivery to your Non UK Mainland address.
